A 2 day intensive hands-on training workshop for photographers, producers, visual artists, directors, actors and anyone wanting to learn more about how to shoot video on a Canon 5D stills camera. Cinematographer David Liddell will lead a practical course with shooting and lighting exercises and 1 Canon 5D Mark II camera will be available between 2 course participants so that everyone gets a chance to shoot with the camera. Maximum of 8 course participants overall. You will learn an overview of the camera and lenses, what kit and accessories are available for filmmaking, how to record clean audio and the Final Cut Pro workflow from shoot to output. Course participants will be given a handout to take away at the end of the course to review with technical information about using the Canon 5D to shoot digital video.
How to operate the camera (iso, exposure, aperture, shutter, picture profile, white balance, focus, record sound)
Practical exercise 1: shoot a small scene (from different genre scripts) with tutor's supervision and help

Lighting for the Canon 5D Hands-on demonstration (different moods and genres)
Practical Exercise 2: shoot tests/ideas/experiment with lights
Recap and review of Practical Exercise 2 from Day 1
Practical Exercise 3: Groups have one hour each to shoot the same genre scene from Day 1 but this time with lighting and tips they've picked up and with tutor's supervision and help

David Liddell is an award winning Cinematographer and graduate of the NFTS Cinematography MA. His undergraduate film Hikikomori was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Short Film and won Best Cinematography Award at Scottish Students on Screen.
