This is a hands-on course aimed at helping participants learn how to use the latest Scheduling and Budgeting Movie Magic software.
Working on two different scripts - a contemporary subject, an award winning short drama written by Michael Cumes (Screen Academy Scotland MA Screenwriting graduate 2010) and a period drama, participants will firstly learn the fundamentals of breaking down a script into 8ths of pages. With supervision from the course tutor, Susie Brown, course participants will create schedules for both with the software. Using a pre-prepared budget for the period drama, this will allow participants to gain a working knowledge of the budgeting software.
Participant numbers are limited so that each participant has a work station to themselves. Screen Academy Scotland has just upgraded its Movie Magic Scheduling & Budgeting software so participants can benefit from learning on the latest version.
After completing the course you should have gained enough knowledge to use the software effectively and more fully understand the process of scheduling and budgeting.

Drama Line Producer Susie Brown has worked in film and television production since 1983. Susie has managed budgets ranging from £5k to £5 million covering drama, factual, documentary and shorts. Her credits include Carrington and Ma Vie en Rose, and working with companies such as Channel 4, BBC, and Working Title.
Who’s it for?
• New Producers, Production Managers, Production Coordinators & Production Assistants/Runners
• A.D.s at all levels who are not familiar with the software already
• Art department assistants who may need to use the software
The course is aimed at freelancers with minimal or no experience of using the Movie Magic software. However, to gain maximum benefit from this training a basic knowledge of the Mac operating system would be useful.
