Course outline: Digital Workflows

Workflows have always been an integral part of the production process but now that tapeless production is the norm on film and TV drama productions, an understanding of the choices and controls of digital workflow is essential.

This course will take you through the whole process of digital workflows - everything that happens to the data from on-set to the screen.

Course details

1. The role and relationships of an assistant Editor and a digital imaging technician - From set to cutting room.

2. Planning your on set workflow

3. Choosing the correct edit platform for your project

4. Delivering your project - Onlining the Offline / extractions / conforms - explanation, pro and cons and budget implications / analysis

Course participants will be given workflow diagrams to take away with them.

Tutor

Iain Miller is an Editor, Assistant Editor and a D.I.T (Digital Imaging Technician) and is fluent in AVID Media Composer 6, Adobe Premiere 6 and Final Cut Pro 7.

Who's it for
This course is designed primarily at D.I.Ts, data wranglers, editors, assistant editors, and producers, line producers and production managers but would also benefit self shooting and self editing directors/producers and directors. Indeed, anyone working digitally in film and TV and needing to expand their knowledge of digital workflows would also benefit from attending this course.

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at freelancers with minimal experience of digital workflow. However, to gain maximum benefit from this training, a basic knowledge of the Mac or PC operating systems, tapeless video cameras and non-linear editing would be useful.
