Roxana Vilk screens film at XpoNorth
Fantastic news that Multi award winning Iranian/ Scottish filmmaker Roxana Vilk's film Here we go, here we go, here we go has been selected to screen at XpoNorth 2017 in Inverness in June.
Here we go, here we go, here we go is a film/poem that Roxana made as part of the Commonwealth Year of Culture, when she was commissioned to make 8 short films with various poets from Scotland and the Commonwealth. One of the poets Roxana met was Rab Wilson from New Cumnock. Roxana says "When I read his poem ' Here we go Here we go Here we go' I knew immediately I wanted to make a film based on it, he dedicated the poem to his 'comrades in the mining industry' as the poem relates back to 1984/5 when Rab was working as a miner at the Barony Pit in Ayrshire. The poem, written in Scots , explores the miners strikes and sadly the pit was eventually closed down by Thatcher which led to the destruction of a whole community."
The Scottish Mining Museum supplied Roxana with black and white archive images and some of Rab's personal photos were also used along with footage of the mine and community today - now a ghost town of boarded up houses and empty streets. These were combined Rab performing the poem. The film was selected for the Weimar Poetry Film Award in Germany.
IN other news Roxana's experimental dance film I Just Disappeared Into You, which was shot in Scotland, has been selected for the Cannes Art Festival which runs during the Cannes Film Festival in May. Roxana was also recently the winner of the Best Music Video Award for We've Got Wings at California International Shorts Festival and Asbury Music in Film Festival 2016. Since graduating Roxana has been fully engaged with the industry, creating work for by Al Jazeera English and MTV amongst other broadcasters.
