Noé Mendelle has produced and directed many documentaries across borders for TV and exhibited in major international festivals, most recently: “ The New Ten Commandments” Edinburgh International Film Festival (2008); “State of the World” was premiered at Cannes (2007); “Fellini, I’m a born liar” nominated for Best European Documentary (2002).  In 2003 she set up Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) as a research, training and production centre based in Edinburgh and made SDI into an international community hub where several generations of Scottish filmmakers share and work across industry and academia.
 
Emma joined the staff of ECA in 2008 as a documentary tutor and became Award Leader for Film and TV in 2009. She has worked as a documentary maker for many years, directing many documentaries and TV programmes for BBC, Channel 4 and other international broadcasters, ranging from observational documentaries ("Gigha: Buying Our Island" BBC ) to arts programmes and more experimental work. Just before being appointed at ECA, she directed "The Culture Show" for BBC  whilst also working on an experimental co-production with Norway ("Sightseer"). Her work has been nominated for amongst other awards - a prestigious Grierson award for "What Age Can You Start Being An Artist?", a collaboration with Room 13 for C4 (2004), Best Art Doc at Celtic Film Festival at "Lighting the Storr" (2006) and Saltire Award for best Scottish Documentary "71  ?N" (2000) .Emma programmed documentaries at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and has been on the board of the European Documentary Network for 4 years. With them she ran workshops throughout Europe, helping directors and producers develop work for pitching. She also taught documentary film making for a year at the European Film College in Denmark (2006-2007). She has been on many festival juries in Europe, and regularly publishes articles for the international DOX magazine . She is currently directing a feature documentary "Breathing" with drama filmmaker Morag MacKinnon.

Donald Holwill
Head of Animation

Donald 's professional experience covers cinema, television and exhibition projects. Prior to joining the staff of eca, his freelance career included animation, rostrum camerawork and illustration for clients such as the Arts Council of Great Britain, Channel 4 and the Cooper Hewitt Museum of Design in New York. His personal projects have appeared at festivals in the UK and abroad.
