Edinburgh College of Art (eca) and Edinburgh Napier University are situated in Edinburgh a major European capital and cultural centre. Edinburgh is an ideal location for those wishing to undertake study in the media and creative arts. The region is host to a vibrant professional and artistic community. It boasts the largest and most diverse festival of the arts, the Edinburgh International Festival in the world which takes place in August and  the longest continually running film festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival which takes place in June.

Stills and Portfolio photographic galleries are Edinburgh based, as are Portfolio magazine and The Filmhouse. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery houses the country's main archival photographic collection and together with The National Gallery, The Museum of Scotland, The Gallery of Modern Art, The City Arts Centre, The Collective Gallery and the Fruitmarket Gallery mounts major exhibitions which include photographic and imaging art together with accompanying educational programmes to which Creative Industries staff regularly contribute.
