As Screen Academy Scotland students on the MA/MFA Film Directing programme at ECA prepare to finish their course we are planning a final, one day Professiona Practice event (for Screen Academy Scotland students only) called What’s Next?
Professional Practice Coordinators Shian Holt and Kay Sheridan have assembled a host of Industry speakers who will lead discussions on a range of subjects designed to help graduates take their next steps as filmmakers.
- Filmmakers David Street and Murray Buchanan will use their recent film Battle Mountain, (http://obree.com/component/tags/tag/5-battle-mountain.html) a documentary about legendary Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree as a case study to discuss Copyright, IP and legal issues for filmmakers.
- Director of Glasgow Short Film Festival Matt Lloyd will be on hand to give an insider’s guide to developing a short film distribution strategy (http://www.glasgowfilm.org/gsff/history).
- Series Producer and Director George Cathro (https://www.thetalentmanager.co.uk/talent/1619/george-cathro) – with over 25 years’ experience of directing and producing factual content for broadcasters from BBC to Channel 4 – will look at what the employment opportunities are for graduates working in factual.
- Finally Feature Producer and Line Producer Suzanne Reid (Moon Dogs, What We Did On Our Summer Vacation, Shell, The Eagle) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2005879/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 ) will take students through what she looks for when crewing up and what graduates can expect in terms of pay, and working conditions on today’s film sets.
