Six short documentaries by students on Edinburgh Napier University’s online MA Creative Documentary Filmmaking programme have been selected for the inaugural OTOXO University Short Documentary Award at the 2026 Central Scotland Documentary Festival.

Six students from Edinburgh Napier University’s online MA Creative Documentary Filmmaking programme, which benefits from the expertise of Screen Academy Scotland, have had their short documentaries selected for a special screening at this year’s Central Scotland Documentary Festival.
The films will be presented as part of the inaugural OTOXO University Short Documentary Award, a new initiative celebrating outstanding documentary work emerging from Scotland’s universities. The 75-minute programme takes place at 4.45pm on Friday 6 November 2026 at Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling.
Created by the festival in partnership with OTOXO Productions, the award offers audiences an opportunity to discover new documentary voices and a range of subjects, perspectives and filmmaking approaches. The winning film will be selected by representatives of OTOXO Productions.
The selection of six films from Edinburgh Napier University’s online MA Creative Documentary Filmmaking programme reflects the students’ commitment to distinctive, thoughtful and creatively ambitious non-fiction storytelling. It is also an exciting opportunity for their work to reach festival audiences alongside documentaries from Scotland and around the world.
The Central Scotland Documentary Festival runs from Thursday 5 to Monday 9 November 2026, with screenings, conversations and industry events taking place across the five-day programme.
