Fantastic news that Transit Zone Frederik Subei’s graduate documentary for the MA Film Directing (Screen Academy Scotland, Edinburgh College of Art) has been nominated by the IDA for the David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award. The award recognizes exceptional acheivement in non-fiction film and video produciton at the university level which aims to bring greater public and industry awareness to the work of students in the documentary field.
Winners will be announced live at the IDA Documentary awards ceremony on Friday Dec 9th 2016 in Los Angeles.
Transit Zone, which documents the lives of refugees in the Jungle near the port of Calais, is going from strength to strength showing in festivals nationally and internationally and was recently awarded a Special Jury Mention at one of the most prestigious documentary film festivals in the world, Visions du Reel in Switzerland. In October it won the Gold Jury Price Award in the short film category at the Social Justice Film Festival in the Seattle Washington. Earlier this year Transit Zone advanced to the semifinals in the Foreign Documentary category of the 43rd annual Student Academy Awards. In a year in which the Academy received a record 1,749 film submissions, Transit Zone’s lastest success is a real achievement and putting it in roughly in the top 5% of all films submitted.
