We are delighted that two MFA Advanced Film Practice graduates (Edinburgh Napier) Robin Haig and Kelly Holmes will both have their graduation films screened at the Glasgow Short Film Festival
Robin Haig’s BAFTA New Talent award winning film (Best Short Drama) Hula will screen in the Scottish Competition 1 on Thursday 16th of March 18.45 at CCA. SCOTTISH COMPETITION 1:
Hula tells the story of Clara, an unhappy divorcee who rediscovers the joy of life after opening a B&B in the Highlands.Robin co-wrote Hula with fellow Screen Academy Scotland graduates Mandy Lee (MFA Advanced Film Practice) and Claire Nicol (MA Screenwriting). It was produced by fellow Screen Academy Scotland graduate Lindsay McGee. Highly regarded actor Blythe Duff stars in the lead role.
Kelly Holmes’ film Family Portrait tells the story of Margaret who must convince her daughter Louise to take responsibility for the family after the death of her father, whilst the family endures the ritual of a family portrait. It will be screened as part of the Scottish Competition 2 The Parent Trap on Friday 17th of March 21.15 at the CCA.
Last year Family Portrait won the top prize at Paris Courts Devant where it won post production funding. As the winning film it also won the grand prize of a broadcast contract with France’s 2nd biggest TV channel ‘France 3’ and a grade with Film Factory Paris. Winning the prize gave Kelly the opportunity to work with industry professionals and increase the audience for the film. Family Portrait screened on France 3 on the 13th of December 2016. In January 2017 Kelly Holmes was nominated for Best Female Director at the London Short Film Festival with Family Portrait where the film had it’s UK premiere.
