We are delighted to announce that the new digital screening room and the new Avid editing room at Screen Academy Scotland ECA are now complete! It was our great pleasure to mark the occasion by hosting a masterclass with visionary filmmaker and critic Mark Cousins. In the morning we screened his films “I am Belfast” and “Life May Be” and in the afternoon Mark showed clips of lesser known documentaries revealing the dazzlingly varied styles of this ever evolving form.

The 56 seat screening room has a 3m screen with 4K projector, equipped for 5.1 surround sound. The room is also equipped with DaVinci Resolve and for playing sequences straight out of Avid Media Composer. With Blu-Ray and DVD playback facilities, this is a great multi-functional space for screening, teaching and colour grading.

Next door to the screening room is the new editing room/ Avid teaching space with five new Avid workstations that also run ProTools . All the Avids are connected to give editing storage space as well as enabling hot-desking and collaborative work.

This project was funded by Creative Skillset and the University of Edinburgh.
