Paulina Gonzalez

Paulina came to Scotland from Mexico to do the MA Screenwriting at Screen Academy Scotland in 2014.

Paulina was already working as a regular writer for popular Mexican TV single melodrama As the Saying Goes and came to Screen Academy Scotland to develop feature projects and her original voice as a writer.

Paulina chose Screen Academy Scotland at Edinburgh Napier because studying there allowed her access to BAFTA student membership and also because the Academy is part of the Creative Skillset Film Academy network. She felt these two factors would contribute to developing her writing career.

Throughout her master’s study, she discovered comedy as a genre, wrote her first full-length feature film, improved her English and developed two pilots for web series that she is now trying to produce and commercialize. Her writing in As the saying goes, which is now in its 7th season, has continued to develop, with better pacing, more conflict and a coherent narrative style which is in no small measure due to her experience at Screen Academy Scotland.

After a year back in Mexico, she returned briefly to Scotland to accompany her husband for his master’s degree, then returned to Mexico and now continues to work as a screenwriter for Mexican TV.

She lives in Mexico City with her husband and her cat, Buñuela.
