Congratulations to Gordon Napier (MFA Film Directing, Screen Academy Scotland, ECA) whose short 1745 will have its UK Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival on Friday 30th June 18.10 Cineworld 5 where it will be in competition for the Best Short Film Award as part of the SHORTS: FROM SCOTLAND strand. Gordon was commissioned by the Scottish Film Talent Network to direct this period drama which finished shooting in November 2016.
1745 tells the story of Emma and Rebecca Atkin, sisters taken as slaves from Nigeria to the West Indies as children in the early 18th century, who are brought back to Scotland by their “predatory” master. They later flee to the Highlands, pursued by their master. 1745 was written by Scots Nigerian Morayo Akandé, who along with her sister Moyo will play the two slave girls. 1745 was produced by John McKay.
Gordon Napier is currently working on developing his first feature film with John McKay and Compact Pictures and just finished Production Managing an SFTN Emerging Talent short for director Iain Mitchel and Producer Deanne Cunningham (Cold Feet-ITV etc).
