Last Thursday Edinburgh Napier University and Screen Academy Scotland were delighted to host a double masterclass at the Screen Academy Production Centre at Edinburgh Napier University with Screenwriter and Producer Dr. Allan Shiach (Don’t Look Now, Regeneration) and Director Gillies MacKinnon (Regeneration, Hideous Kinky).
Dr Allan Shiach is an Honorary Professor of Film at Edinburgh Napier University and writing as Allan Scott, he is an acclaimed screenwriter and film producer. His writing credits include Don’t Look Now (1974) and four other films with Nic Roeg as well as adapting the Pat Barker novel Regeneration which tells the story of Siegfried Sassoon and the other 1st World War Poets brought together at Craiglockhart Hospital.
Regeneration (1997) was directed by Scottish filmmaker Gillies MacKinnon. Over the past thirty years Gillies has directed many successful projects for film and television and he is currently completing post-production on Whisky Galore (2016) which was filmed in Scotland last summer.
During this event Allan and Gillies spoke about working together on Regeneration and the collaboration between screenwriter and film director.
