Estonia, now. A streetwise homicide detective is forced to partner with a principled Internal Security Service agent at the head of a crime investigation after the daughter of a prominent Estonian family is murdered and her twin sister kidnapped. As they strive to rescue the surviving twin and apprehend the kidnappers, their investigation spirals into a murky world of conspiracies and the uncovering of a plot to strip the country of its very independence.

Three Screen Academy Scotland alumni and MA Screenwriting tutor Nigel Smith are currently developing a 10-part Baltic Noir drama series in Estonia with Oscar and two-time Golden Globe nominated producer Ivo Felt. The project was initiated by Lauri Lippmaa (MA Screenwriting 2014) in his native Tallinn, Estonia. He then brought in fellow Screen Academy Scotland MA Screenwriting graduates Paul Cahill (MA SW 2014) and Alexia Fernandez-Frasquet (2014) to co-write. Screen Academy Scotland screenwriting lecturer Nigel Smith was brought on board as the Story editor. We look forward to hearing more in the new year about how the series is progressing!
