Great news that Catriona MacInnes’ latest short film Howls will have its world premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017 as part of the Shorts: UK – Fireworks strand on Saturday 24th of June at Cineworld Cinema 5 at 13.00. The film has been nominated for the award for Best Short Film. Howls draws powerfully upon folktales and oral tradition, where nature is presented as a site of strange and ominous energies, replete with shape-shifting creatures. The film was financed by Scottish Film Talent Network with Creative England.

Catriona graduated from Screen Academy Scotland, Edinburgh Napier MFA Advanced Film Practice in 2008. Her graduation film I’m In Away From Here premiered in competition at the 65th Venice International Film Festival in 2008, and was nominated for a BAFTA New Talent Award the following year.

In 2011 her second short A Cuillin Rising (developed and commissioned by digicult and funded by Creative Scotland and the UK Film Council) premiered at the BFI London Film festival, and was later nominated for British Council Best New Short at London Short Film Festival. Following a mentorship with Molly Stensgaard (through a screenwriting program run by Playwrights Studio Scotland and Binger Film Lab) Catriona developed her first feature script Gift from God

As the creative producer for SIGMA Films 2013-15 youth talent initiative, Jumpcut, she produced Dropping Off Michael, which premiered at Palm Springs and was twice BAFTA nominated.

Catriona is a part-time lecturer in performance for screen and film practice at Edinburgh Napier University and a visiting lecturer at Glasgow University and Edinburgh College of Art.
