Great news that Donkeyote the latest feature film by Screen Academy graduate Chico Pereira (MFA Advanced Film Practice, Edinburgh Napier) will compete for the VPRO Big Screen Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film will have its World Premiere this weekend Saturday 28th of January at 8pm at the Pathé 7.
Donkeyote tells the story of Manuel Molera Aparicio and his ten year old Andalusian donkey, Gorrión. Against the advice of his doctor, 76 year old Manuel plans one last walk re-tracing the Trail of Tears, the brutal forced 2200 mile march by the Native American Cherokee Nation. Written and directed by Chico with cinematography by long time collaborator (and fellow Screen Academy graduate) Julian Schwanitz, Donkeyote was co-produced by Chico Pereira, Igmar Trost and Sonia Henrici of the Scottish Documentary Institute.
Donkeyote is the much anticipated follow up to Pereira’s award winning MFA Advanced Film Practice graduation film of 2012 Pablo’s Winter which screened at over 40 festivals world wide garnering the following awards:
