Great news that MA Film graduate Kamil Dobrosielski is working for the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London as Project Manager on Crossings: Stories of Migration which is a programme of films and discussions on migration, led by the ICA London and supported by the BFI.
Crossings will come to Edinburgh and Glasgow this month to screen two excellent documentaries as part of Take One Action Film Festival taking place from 13th -24th September.
The films screening as part of Crossings are The War Show and Stranger In Paradise (synopses and trailers below).

The War Show 15th September 8.30pm
Stranger in Paradise 16th September 8.30pm
Glasgow Film Theater in Glasgow
The War Show 16th September 3.30pm.
Stranger in Paradise 17th September 5.50pm.
The War Show was made completely in the editing room out of the footage shot by its protagonists. Stranger in Paradise is an fantastic example of what creative documentary can be and opens with beautiful montage sequence (It’s also a graduation film for talented newcomer director Guido Hendrix).
Screenings will be followed by the Q&As and there will be free masterclass on Friday 15 September with Andreas Dalsgaard director of The War Show.
Both film had been shortlisted recently for European Film Award (Best European Documentary)

THE WAR SHOW portrays the war in Syria from a young people’s perspective. A Syrian radio DJ documents the experiences of herself and her friends throughout the 2011 Arab Spring, subsequent protests against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and the resulting repression, forced migration and extremism. The film is a personal road movie that follows Syria’s fate and a group of friends whose lives and dreams turn into nightmares, while the country collapses into chaos. THE WAR SHOW opened the 2016 Venice Days, where it won the Jury Prize.

STRANGER IN PARADISE

A teacher uses math to explain to a group of refugees what their arrival will cost society. In three acts, director and screenwriter Guido Hendrikx explains the European view of the refugee crisis. Hendrikx shows where the refugees’ dreams clash with reality and forces us to think hard about our own position. STRANGER IN PARADISE was the opening night film of the 2016 edition of IDFA, where it won a Special Jury Award.
