The Dark Box has been selected for the Student Etudes Competition at the Cameraimage Festival in Poland. This is a festival dedicated to the art of cinematography that takes place in the city of Bydgoszcz from November 12th to 19th. The student competition is part of a much larger festival that also includes workshops from prominent cinematographers. The film was the 2016 Edinburgh Napier graduation film from BA (Hons) Film students Iness Rychlik, Shannon Rough and Simon Macek.
The Dark Box is a period drama concerning a woman trapped in an unhappy Victorian marriage who pursues an interest in photography to escape from her oppressive relationship. Iness combined the roles of writer, director and cinematographer. Shannon was the film’s production designer and Simon was the editor. It also stars Edinburgh Napier’s BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen graduate Hana Mackenzie. The student competition features 28 films from all parts of the world. The three other UK films are from Anglia Ruskin University, the London Film School, and the National Film School.
