Fantastic news that Juri Krutii’s graduation film Eudaimonia  will be having its UK Premiere at Glasgow Short Film Festival on March 16th as part of Scottish Competition 2: The Point is to Change It. Juri is a current student on the MFA Advanced Film Practice programme at Screen Academy Scotland/Edinburgh Napier.

The film tells the story of a small group of women isolated from the outside world, who follow the simple yet cruel Order of Mother Innocence. Set within a decaying structure, the world is irrevocably altered for young Sister Grace.

Also screening in the same strand are films from two other Screen Academy graduates Gordon Napier and Soran Qurbani.

1745 a drama directed by Gordon Napier (MFA Film Directing, Screen Academy Scotland/Edinburgh College of Art) and produced by John McKay,  had its UK Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival in June 2017. The film tells the story of Emma and Rebecca Atkin, sisters taken as slaves from Nigeria to the West Indies as children in the early 18th century, who are brought back to Scotland by their “predatory” master. They later flee to the Highlands, pursued by their master. The film, commissioned by the Scottish Film Talent Network, was written by Scots Nigerian Morayo Akandé, who along with her sister Moyo play the two female leads.

Homage to Kobane a documentary directed by Soran Qurbani (MA Film Directing, Screen Academy Scotland/Edinburgh College of Art) which was broadcast on Spanish Televison, tells the story of Kurdish female fighters in Rojava, Syria. The film comes in the form of a goodbye letter from Narin, a 19 year old female fighter, who writes to her mum on her birthday.

Congratulations to all!
