Kelly Holmes (MFA Advanced Film Practice, Edinburgh Napier) has had her graduate film Family Portrait selected for the Court Metrange Film Festival 2017 which takes place in France from the 19th – 21st October.
Family Portrait tells the story of Margaret who must convince her daughter Louise to take responsibility for the family after the death of her father, whilst the family endures the ritual of a family portrait.
In 2016 Family Portrait won the top prize at Paris Courts Devant where it won post production funding. As the winning film it also won the grand prize of a broadcast contract with France’s 2nd biggest TV channel ‘France 3’ and a grade with Film Factory Paris. Winning the prize gave Kelly the opportunity to work with industry professionals and increase the audience for the film. Family Portrait screened on France 3 on the 13th of December 2016. In January 2017 Kelly Holmes was nominated for Best Female Director at the London Short Film Festival with Family Portrait where the film had it’s UK premiere. Family Portrait also screened in the Scottish Competiton 2 at Glasgow Short Film Festival in March 2017.
