We are delighted that two Screen Academy graduates and an Edinburgh Napier graduate will all have short films screened at Encounters Short Film Festival 2016. Rat King by Pavel Shepan (MA Film, Screen Academy Edinburgh Napier University) will screen in the Late Lounge , Man by Maja Borg (MA Film Directing, Screen Academy Edinburgh College of Art) will screen in the Mother’s Milk strand and The Soloist by Edinburgh Napier BA Film graduate Katri Van Hatalo will screen as part of the Islands strand.

Rat King which recently screened at Edinburgh International Film Festival as part of Scottish Shorts was one of 14 projects developed through the Scottish Film Talent Network talent programme.  Director Pavel Shepan, Screenwriter John Gibb and Producer Bianca Herold all completed MA degrees in their respective fields at Screen Academy Scotland, Edinburgh Napier. Their other previous work includes the mini series Judas Goat (www.judas-goat.com) which received a BAFTA New Talent award for Cinematography in 2015.

Man an experimental expression of form – hand-processed super 8mm film combined with watercolour-negative animation – is a dramatisation of the biological and cultural body in transformation through the wilderness of pregnancy. Another Screen Academy graduate Ruth Paxton did the Production Design for the film.

The Soloist  which screened at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2016 is a portrait of the filmmaker’s father a musician who fills his solitary days by escaping the world to play his trumpet.
