Screen Academy Scotland (Edinburgh College of Art) graduate Astrid Bussink’s award winning short film Giovanni and the Water Ballet has been selected for Encounters 2015. The film tells the story of ten-year old Giovanni who has the dream of being the first boy to compete in the Dutch Synchronized Swimming Championships. The film has screened at numerous festivals across the world including The Berlinale, Edinburgh International Film Festival and IDFA and has won the following awards:

– Mediafund Kids & Docs Award – IDFA, November 2014, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
– Generation Kplus International Jury Prize for Best Short Film, Berlinale, Februari 2015, Germany
– Audience Parents Award – New York Children’s Film Festival, March 2015, New York, USA
– Silver Award for Best Documentary – Caïro International Cinema & Arts Festival for Children, March 2015, Egypt
– Audience Award – Full Frame International Documentary Film Festival,, April 2015, Durham, NC, USA
– Award for Best Short Documentary –  CAT Festival, May 2015, Moscow, Russia
