UK/Spain co-production Pikadero, the debut feature film of British writer/director (and Screen Academy Scotland MFA Advanced Film practice graduate) Ben Sharrock, will premiere in the New Directors section at the 63rd edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival (18-26 September 2015).

Barbara Goenaga and Joseba Usabiaga play Ane and Gorka, a young, penniless couple who, unable to fly the nest due to the economic crisis, have trouble consummating their fledgling relationship. Their love is quickly tested as they try to break free from the shackles of a crumbling economy. The film was shot in Basque and in the Basque country in April 2015 and was produced by fellow Screen Academy graduate Irune Gurtubai.

Fellow Edinburgh Napier graduate Karel Dolak edited Pikadero. Karel graduated from Edinburgh Napier with a BA (Hons) Photography and Film degree in 2013. For the last two academic years, he has undertaken post-production teaching on the new BA (Hons) Film Programme.

Ben Sharrock and Irune Gurtubai previously made the award winning short Patata Tortilla, their MFA graduation film which won two BAFTA New Talent awards in 2015, one for best Drama and one for best Writing.
