Fantastic news that Screen Academy graduate Basil Khalil (MA SPD,Edinburgh Napier) has had his latest short film Ave Maria accepted to the Official Short Films Selection at Cannes! Nine films (including one animation) will compete for the Short Film Palme d’or, to be awarded by Timbuktu director Abderrahmane Sissako, president of the Cinéfondation and Short Films jury, at the festival’s awards ceremony on May 24.

This year, the selection committee received 4,550 short films – 1,000 more than in 2014 – from over 100 countries.

Very well done indeed!
