On Nov 18th we were thrilled to host a masterclass with renowned 1st AD Tommy Gormley. Fresh from his win at the British Academy Scotland (BAFTA) ceremony in Glasgow on the 16th Nov where he won an award for Outstanding Contribution to Craft, Tommy spoke to students about his career journey from being a Production Runner to becoming the 1st AD of choice in Hollywood.
Speaking to a full house of Screen Academy staff and students Tommy regaled us with fantastic behind the scenes insights into filmmaking and working with the best Directors out there from Ken Loach to J.J. Abrams who said of Tommy’s BAFTA win:
“I’d like to say three things. One: BAFTA Scotland rules. Two: Scotland rules. And three: Tommy Gormley rules. Tommy Gormley is not just the most incredible first A.D. I’ve ever seen but is one of the greatest people I’ve ever met,”
The talk took place at the Screen Academy Scotland Production Centre at Edinburgh Napier University.
