My teaching and research focus on Asian cinema, with expertise in Chinese language cinema: the three new wave film movements in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan since 1980s, the cultural identities, and film authorship etc. I am the Editor-in-Chief of the 2 books commissioned by UNESCO Cities of Film Network: “Development of Global Film Industry: Industrial Competition and Cooperation in the Context of Globalization” (2020, Routledge); and “The Global Film Market Transformation in the Post-Pandemic Era: Production, Distribution and Consumption” (2023, Routledge).
In my role as a film festival curator, I organized the Chinese Diasporic Film Festival and Film Forum in French Polynesia in 2018. Additionally, I contributed to the publication of a bilingual (English/French) book titled “Migration & Memory: Arts and Cinemas of the Chinese Diaspora” (2019, MHSP), which has been well-received.
I am an enthusiast of digital filmmaking with film festival selections and awards. My recent documentary film “In Pursuit of Truth: Once Upon A Time In China (2022)” is selected by Cannes Aviff Art Film Festival 2023.
As a supervisor, I have successfully supervised three candidates who completed their doctoral studies under my guidance. I am currently supervising 2 PhD candidates with another one to start in October 2023 at SACI:
